Hokkaido Autumn Foliage Tour Plan
7 days to visit unexplored autumn regions known only to those in the know
Day 1
Arrive at New Chitose Airport and go to Iwamizawa or Mikasa
Pick up at New Chitose Airport by private car. Stay overnight in a quiet town in central Hokkaido and prepare for your trip the next day.
2nd day
Art Meets Nature: Bibai and Sounkyo
Visit Arte Piazza Bibai, an open-air art museum created by sculptor Kan Yasuda. The sculptures standing in the middle of the forest will evoke a quiet sensation. In the afternoon, we will move to the magnificent Sounkyo Gorge for an evening of hot spring baths and the gorge tinted with autumn leaves.
3rd day
From the unexplored Tenninkyo to the hills of Biei
Tenninkyo, with its cliffs and mountain streams, is a quiet place with few tourists. In the afternoon, we will move to Biei and visit Aoi Ike (Blue Pond), Shikisaino-Oka (Hill of Four Seasons), and Road of Patchwork. The tour will take you to a series of large scale scenery typical of Hokkaido.
Day 4
Jozankei, canoeing and hot spring
Cross the Daisetsuzan mountain range to Jozankei. In the afternoon, we will experience canoeing and view the mountains in autumn colors while drifting on the lake. In the evening, we will take a relaxing dip in a hot spring bath to recover from the fatigue.
5th day
Spectacular view of the Sea of Japan, Yoichi, Otaru
The cliffs of Cape Kamui and the azure sea are so powerful that it is hard to believe that you are in Hokkaido. In Yoichi, enjoy apple and grape fruit picking, and in the evening stroll through the beautiful canals and cobblestone streets of Otaru.
Day 6
Sapporo Free Time
You are free to spend your time at Odori Park, Hokkaido Shrine, Raccoon Alley, etc., according to your preference. It is also a great place for shopping on the eve of your last day.
Day 7
New Chitose Airport / Return
It takes about 40 minutes from Sapporo to the airport. With the memories of autumn in Hokkaido in our hearts, we are on our way home.
