Hokkaido Funka Bay Flounder Fishing Trip

A 3-night, 4-day trip to experience the seas of Hokkaido through boat fishing, hot springs, markets, and a sushi-making workshop

Day 1

Arrive at New Chitose Airport and go to Sapporo

A private chauffeur will meet you at New Chitose Airport. The ride to your hotel in Sapporo takes about 60 minutes. Since you’ll be leaving early the next morning, please take it easy and get a good night’s rest after checking in.

Day 2

Early Morning Departure: Flounder Fishing in Toyoura

We’ll depart Sapporo in the early morning and set sail from Toyoura Port at 5:30 a.m. Under the guidance of a captain who knows the area inside and out, we’ll spend about six hours fishing for flounder in Funka Bay. A KAN-AKANE staff member and avid angler will accompany you (English-speaking). She’ll provide support ranging from tips on rigging your line to ways to enjoy your catch, so even first-timers can feel at ease using rental rods. After returning to port, warm up at a nearby hot spring, enjoy a seafood lunch, and then head back to Sapporo.

Day 3

Sapporo: A Day Trip to Enjoy Seafood to the Fullest

A day exploring Sapporo’s “seafood delicacies” via subway and taxi, without hiring a private car. Start the morning with a stroll through the Outer Market and a seafood rice bowl for breakfast. Take the subway to Makomanai to learn about the life cycle of salmon at the Sapporo Toyohira River Salmon Science Museum (free admission). In the afternoon, take a sushi-making class in the city center (approx. 1 hour and 30 minutes; English instructions provided), where you can enjoy the sushi you made yourself right there. In the evening, visit AOAO SAPPORO on Tanukikoji to enjoy an urban aquarium, and then head to Susukino to savor Hokkaido’s nighttime culinary delights.

*The Toyohira River Salmon Science Museum is closed on Mondays (or the following weekday if Monday is a holiday). Reservations are required for the sushi-making workshop.

Day 4

New Chitose Airport / Return

From Sapporo to New Chitose Airport (about 50 minutes). Head home with memories of Hokkaido’s sea still fresh in your mind.
